Manchester United legend, Gary Neville has come out to say that David Raya is beginning to feel the pressure that comes with being Arsenal’s number-one goalie. He recently revealed that the Spaniard has started making mistakes as a result, and fans have been reacting.
According to him, things have been getting hot for Raya at Arsenal in recent weeks, and that is expected when you play for one of the biggest clubs in the English Premier League.
Gary added that he expects him to be under more scrutiny in the coming weeks, especially since Arteta decided to create the goalkeeping problem himself.
His words, “David Raya started his Arsenal career well but then he had a poor Champions League game [against Lens] followed by that first half against Manchester City,”
“Now, this game. It’s getting hot for him. He’s got that look on his face like, ‘help’. It’s the toughest position to play and certainly when you’re at one of the biggest clubs in the league, you’re under the most amount of scrutiny – particularly if you’re a goalkeeper.”
“Mikel Arteta has created that, let’s be clear with the Ramsdale and Raya situation. It’s unusual but he says it can work. I’ve never believed it could, and I believe we’re seeing in front of our eyes the challenges that exist because now, there is going to be pressure. Aaron Ramsdale hadn’t done a lot wrong at the start of the season. Raya has now started to make mistakes.”
WOW.

The club has won 13 league titles (including one unbeaten title), a record 14 FA Cups, two League Cups, 17 FA Community Shields, the Football League Centenary Trophy, one European Cup Winners’ Cup and one Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. After conducting an overhaul in the club’s operating model to coincide with Wenger’s departure, Spaniard Unai Emery was named as the club’s new head coach on 23 May 2018. He became the club’s first ever ‘head coach’ and second manager from outside the United Kingdom.
In Emery’s first season, Arsenal finished fifth in the Premier League and as runner-up in the Europa League. On 29 November 2019, Emery was dismissed as manager and former player and assistant first team coach Freddie Ljungberg was appointed as interim head coach. On 20 December 2019, Arsenal appointed former club captain Mikel Arteta as the new head coach. Arsenal finished the league season in eighth, their lowest finish since 1994–95, but beat Chelsea 2–1 to earn a record-extending 14th FA Cup win. After the season, Arteta’s title was changed from head coach to manager.
