Reduction In Electricity Tariff: Jonathan, A Listening And Compassionate Leader – PDP

Goodluck JonathanThe Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for the 50 percent reduction in electricity tariff in the country.

The Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission had on Tuesday a 50 per cent reduction in electricity tariff beginning from April 1.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, in a statement on Wednesday said the reduction, which came two months after the cut in the pump price of petrol shows the President “as a listening and compassionate leader who has the interest and wellbeing of his citizens at heart”.

The party said the development has shown that President Jonathan is always in touch with the people and issues that have direct bearing on their economic and social lives, adding that the reduction was “a direct result of meticulous application of deliberate policies which took full cognizance of the impact of high electricity cost on the citizens and the economy”.

“This reduction in electricity tariff has further strengthened the business-friendly environment created by the Jonathan administration which led to the unprecedented thriving of the private sector, our emergence as the largest economy in Africa and one of the fastest growing in the world”, the party said.

The PDP noted that the step would not only translate into better living standard for Nigerians but also increase the nation’s GDP as more investments are expected to spring up with more employment and business opening for Nigerians.

Stating that the nation will continue to witness the yields of populist policies of the Jonathan administration, the PDP urged the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to ensure full implementation of the Transitional Electricity Market policy, which is designed to ensure an efficient cost reflectivity that would guarantee cheaper electric service in the country.

The party therefore urged Nigerians to ensure that this positive trend is sustained and consolidated by coming out enmasse to vote for President Jonathan and other PDP candidates in the March 28 and April 11 elections.
