All things being equal, the Social Development Institute (SDI), Shasha Iperu Remo being renovated by the Ogun State government would be completed and ready for commissioning by the end of next month.

Commissioner for Community Development, and Cooperatives, Chief Samuel Aiyedogbon who made this declaration today while conducting newsmen round the complex confirmed that at least 70 percent of the rehabilitation work had been done.

It would be recalled that the State government had last month released the sum of N50m for the renovation of the 58-year old institute established by the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo to among other things, provide citizenship and leadership trainings for students and community leaders across West African countries.

Ayedogbon assured that the State government would continue to give necessary attention to the Institute affiliated to the Olabisi Onabanjo University in line with its determination to provide qualitative education and preserve one of the legacies of the late Premier of the defunct Western region.

He commended Governor Amosun for matching his words with action, recalling that following his visit to the Institute during which he discovered that it was dilapidated, the Governor pledged to release fund promptly to undergo the rehabilitation.

Also speaking, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Yemi Olanrewaju, said that the on-going renovation was aimed at creating a conducive learning and teaching environment for both students and teachers

Olanrewaju said when completed, the Institute would attract more students from far and near and consequently boost the Stateâs Internally Generated Revenue.

On his part, Principal of the Institute, Mr. Olusegun Adebayo appreciated the State government for the gesture on renovation, saying it would boost the morale of students and CDA leaders undergoing leadership training.
