The House of Representatives has summoned the Minister of Blue Economy and Transport, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, along with other top officials, to address concerns over the handling of concessions of port infrastructure in Nigeria.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation, Rep. Ibrahim Hamisu, expressed reservations about the methodology used in the concession of seaport terminals.
Others summoned include the Managing Director of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), Mr. Muhammed Koko, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprise, Mr. Mamman Ahmadu, and the Director-General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Mr. Michael Ohiani.

Rep. Hamisu highlighted that the poor handling of the concession process had led to five companies operating for three years without the renewal of their operating licenses, resulting in a significant loss of revenue to the Federal Government.
He emphasized the need to address the prolonged renewal process to attract investments into critical port infrastructure.
He stated, “What is outstanding in concluding the process that started over 5 years ago is the execution of the negotiated Supplementary Agreements for the respective terminals.
That is why we invited all stakeholders to see how we can work together to quickly address these concerns in the mutual and national interest.”
The summoning of these officials is aimed at resolving the issues surrounding the concession process and ensuring that the port infrastructure is effectively managed and operated for the benefit of the country.
