IBIM SEMENITARI
The commissioner for information and communications, Rivers State, Ms Ibim Semenitari, has said that unlike most states controlled by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the state remains one of the least indebted states in the country.
She also accused the Chief Felix Obuah-led PDP in the state of lying and misleading the people of the state about the $280million loan from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the World Bank for water and sanitation projects, which got the approval of the State House of Assembly last Monday.
Semenitari spoke yesterday in Port Harcourt, while reacting to a statement issued by the Rivers PDP where the party alleged that the state government tabled a fresh request for loan before the House of Assembly to enable Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi source funds for 2015 elections and to sponsor the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The commissioner noted that the said loan was an old one that the government re-presented to the House as the Ministry of Finance failed to sign off the release of funds since 2012, thereby delaying the state government’s complete overhaul and rejuvenation of the water sector, thus denying the people of the state access to good water.
“Unlike the PDP, the Rivers State government is focused on ensuring governance and service delivery to its people until its last day”, she added, stressing that the state government’s finances remain strong.
