The former Chairman of the defunct Oil Mineral Producing Area Development Commission (OMPADEC) Albert Horsfall has ascribed the current political crisis rocking Rivers State to the product of greedy politicians, who he said are bent on setting the state on fire.
Albert Horsfall, an elder statesman in a press briefing in Port Harcourt recently, cautioned against the recurrence of some of the irresponsible practices which plunged Nigeria into serious crisis and blood bath in the past.
Horsfall noted that the latest of such regrettable events in the evolving political scenario was the Soku Oil Wells as well as the political activities of the newly created All Progressive Congress (APC). Adding, the actions and pronouncements of PDP chieftains in the state have been of no less importance.
He expressed regret that the leaders of the opposing factions are all Ijaws, emphasizing that the way out lies in boundary adjustment to ensure that the Kalabaris dwell in Rivers State and the Nembes stay in Bayelsa State.
While calling on President Goodluck Jonathan to intervene and introduce a peaceful and amicable resolution of the deepening crisis in the hostile region, Horsfall appealed to the opposing groups to embrace peace to enable law abiding citizens in Rivers State engage in their daily activities without violence and unnecessary tensions.
