Rivers State Governor and Chairman, Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has commended the United Kingdom (UK) government for their support in the fight to check the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the State. He also assured the UK of his administration’s readiness to partner with it in areas of mutual economic benefits in order to boost the investment profile of the State. Governor Amaechi gave this commendation yesterday when a UK Trade delegation led by the UK envoy on Trade to Nigeria, Mr. David Heath, visited him in Government House, Port Harcourt. Represented by his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, the Governor said his administration has continued its drive to attract investors to the State, by addressing factors such as insecurity, obnoxious legislations, and a host of others that negatively affect the business climate of the State.
Earlier, Mr. David Heath, had informed the Governor that his mission in Rivers State and other parts of Nigeria is to explore areas of mutual trade benefits between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, explaining that he has been having discussions with both Nigerian and UK businesses on mutual cooperation with a view to attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) to the country.
He expressed optimism that Rivers State and the United Kingdom will continue to cooperate in areas of common economic interest, adding, from his personal experience “Nigeria, and Rivers State in particular, is a safe place to invest and do business”.
