Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has expressed Russia’s readiness to collaborate with international partners to help restore stability in Sudan.
Lavrov made this known on Wednesday during a meeting with Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Yusuf Al-Sharif, where he reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at normalizing the situation in the war-torn country.
“As true friends, we are deeply concerned about the dramatic events unfolding in Sudan,” Lavrov said. “We are ready to join other external players in supporting efforts to normalise the situation.”

He also noted that the full resumption of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Sudan would depend on security conditions in the country.
On his part, Al-Sharif expressed Sudan’s appreciation for Moscow’s solidarity, describing the conflict as “a serious war between the [Sudanese] army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).”
InfoStride News reports that the Sudanese minister arrived in Russia for a three-day official visit amid the ongoing power struggle between the Sudanese regular army and the RSF, which has continued since April 2023.
The International Committee of the Red Cross has warned that the prolonged hostilities could trigger disease outbreaks and a catastrophic collapse of Sudan’s healthcare system.
Meanwhile, Sudan’s Ambassador to Russia, Mohamed Siraj, had expressed hope in a January interview with RIA Novosti that the armed conflict would end by 2025.
