Rwanda is set to name a new coach to lead the country through the 2015 Nations Cup qualifiers and with a target to win the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN), Rwanda FA chairman Vincent Degaule Nzamwita has told cafonline.com.
“We have set up a special committee which will work closely with the Ministry of Sports and Culture to assess the shortlisted coaches before naming the best man for the job. The coach will be tasked to win the 2016 African Championship Cup which will be held on home soil,” Nzamwita said.
Among the eight shortlisted coaches is Ratomir Dujkovic who if named would be taking charge of the Wasps for the second time. The 68-year-old Serbian, who took Ghana to the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals, led the Wasps for three years from 2001, guiding them to the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia.
Also tipped for the job is Tom Saintfiet who has had stints with Malawi, Ethiopia and Namibia.
The other coaches listed for the job are former Tanzania coach Danish Kim Poulsen, Belgian Luc Eymael, French Didier Gomes da Rosa, Croatian Branko Tucak, Dutch Rene Feller and German Hans Michael Weiss.
Present coach Eric Nshimiyimana, whose contract ends on April 30, is not being considered.
Rwanda begins her quest for a place at the Africa Cup of Nations next year with a first round tie against Libya next month.
Should Amavubi prevail over Libya’s Mediterranean Knights, they face the winner of the fixture between Namibia and Congo in the second round for a place in Group A which has defending champions Nigeria, South Africa and Sudan.
