Alhaji Inuwa Bakari, the state’s ousted interim PDP chairman, must be immediately reinstated, according to an order from the Taraba State High Court in the state’s capital of Jalingo.
The reinstated acting party chairman’s requests were all granted in the judgement that Justice Nuhu Adi presided over.
Former state governor Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku fired Bakari, and Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, who had served as Ishaku’s special adviser, took his position.
Bakari sought the court to invalidate Bawa’s appointment since the party’s constitution’s due processes were not followed, as he did not agree with the previous governor’s choice.
The judge ordered Bakari’s immediate reinstatement after describing the appointment of Bawa as “unconstitutional” in the lengthy decision.
He urged Bawa to stop acting like the party’s chairman while giving Bakari instructions to resume his role as acting chairman of the party right now.
Bakari, who was delighted with the decision, advised the party’s supporters to maintain their composure and avoid doing any actions that could cause a crisis. He also pledged to return to work as the court ordered.
His barrister, Barrister John Okezie, also spoke and praised the judge’s efforts, stating that he had put the proper peg in the right spot.
The ousted chairman stated that he would need to consult with his attorneys before deciding what to do next.
The decision was made only a few days after a committee was established by the state government to settle the party’s continuing leadership dispute.
