The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, has commiserated with families of the victims of last Friday’s building collapse at the Synagogue Church of All Nations at Ikotun Egbe, Lagos
A statement by her media assistant, Ayo Adewuyi, said the president’s wife was moved by the news that majority of those who died were women and children.
She also expressed sadness over the incident and offered her condolences to the families of the victims and the General Overseer of the church, Pastor T.B. Joshua.
“As the mother of the nation, my thoughts are with you and the entire congregation at this time of your grief”, the statement read in part.
The statement also quoted Mrs. Jonathan as saying it was a needless tragedy at this crucial time in the nation and for those who had gone to the sanctuary to seek the face of the Lord.
She also prayed for God to console families of the victims and grant the souls of the departed peaceful rest.
“Dame Patience Jonathan also prayed that God in his infinite mercy grant the congregation the fortitude to bear the loss of the faithful and assuage the pains of those left behind”, the statement read.
