Security personnel in Ondo State have locked down the PDP party headquarters in preparation for today’s protest against Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s absence.
On Monday morning, before the protesters could gather outside the building, the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force cordoned off the building.
After three months of medical leave in Germany, InfoStride News reported that on September 7 Akeredolu returned to Nigeria.
Akeredolu has been running the operations of Ondo State from his own residence in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, since his return to Nigeria in September.
Kennedy Peretei, the PDP’s state publicity secretary, confirmed the news and offered an explanation for the party’s reputation for stability and progress in the State.
We have no reason to intentionally cause chaos in the state.
If the APC has any idea where Akeredolu is, they should respectfully request that he either step down or come forward. After falling short of residents’ expectations, “the ruling party is clearly afraid of its own shadow,” Peretei said.
The ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been accused of uncovering a plot by the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to provoke a crisis in the state in order to present the APC in a poor light ahead of the 2025 gubernatorial election. This allegation was made by Alex Kalejaye, the Publicity Secretary of the APC, in a statement released on Sunday.
