The Chairman, Senate Committee on Women Affairs and Youth Development, Senator Helen Esuene has called on youths of this country to imbibe principles of ethics, moral value and team spirit in order to effectively take on the leadership challenge before them as they contribute positively to nation building.
Senator Esuene made the charge yesterday at the National Assembly when some selected youths paid an advocacy visit to the Committee as part of concerted efforts to galvanize the legislative arm of Government to contribute significantly to the attainment of the development agenda for the youth sector.
While stressing on the importance of youth engagement, the Senator charged youths to leverage on the huge resource endowment of the country for the realization of their personal ambitions. She disclosed that youth empowerment for job creation requires core entrepreneurial values, respect and patriotic spirit for proper growth and development.
She therefore, advised them to build on the good image of the country and join the vanguard to propagate the noble fit attained by eminent Nigerians. Senator Esuene used the opportunity to commend the outstanding performance of youths who have made the nation proud in sports for national development.
When she spoke earlier, the Director, Network and Social Mobilisation in the Ministry, Joy Ajulu, who represented the Permanent Secretary stated that the Federal Ministry of Youth Development is in the process of initiating a memo to the Federal Executive Council on the 20% Affirmative Action on Youths in order to fully recognize young people as partners in the socio economic development of the country.
In his address, the head of the youths delegates, Henry Ike Uguru revealed that the reason for the advocacy visit was to solicit for support of the Committee on Women Affairs and Youths Development so as to ensure the inclusion and active participation of at least 20% young men and women in decision making processes at all levels of governance in Nigeria.
