The Senate Committee on Special Duties has again rated the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs high, on its commitment to the implementation of constituency projects across the country.
While speaking through its chairman, Senator Clever Ikisikpo, during the Committee’s oversight visit to the Ministry, the Committee lauded the level of commitment towards monitoring, evaluation and verification of constituency projects, by the Ministry, despite getting the mandate late in the year 2013.
While expressing the Ministry’s gratitude to the committee and the entire National Assembly members, for the visit and their cooperation with the Ministry so far; the Minister, Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki said, the constituency projects being monitored by the Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, was capable of removing the disconnect between the National Assembly and their constituents, over the year.
The Minister stated further that funds have been released to the 114 Constituency Projects implementing Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), through the support of Mr. President, to enhance prompt payment to the various contractors, upon completion of the Projects.
He stressed that approval has also been given to extend the implementation of 2013 Constituency Projects to 2014, in order to avoid mopping-up of funds and to ensure one hundred percent implementation.
In her own remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita said, the monitoring exercise embarked upon by the Ministry, had created a lot of awareness at the grassroots and thus; cleared several misconceptions on the Constituency Projects, across the country.
