The Nigerian Senate has considered and approved the appointment of Jummai Audi (Professor) as Commissioner for the Nigerian Law Reform Commission and the President’s request for the confirmation of Stanley I. Lawson for appointment as a non- executive member of the Central Bank of Nigeria in accordance with the CBN Act 2007.
The report from the Publicity Department of the National Assembly Commission recently indicated that the Senate also at the plenary considered the appointment of Dahiru Hassan Balami (Professor) into the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Adding, both requests were forwarded to the Banking and Other Financial Matters Committee with expectation of return to the plenary in two weeks time.
Other reports presented at the plenary, the release said were: the Report of the Conference Committee on the National Assembly Service Commission Act CAP N7 2004 (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill 2014 and the Report of the Committee on Interior in respect of a motion on the tragic Nationwide Aptitude Test and Physical Examination on 15th March, 2014 into the Nigerian Immigration Service by Atiku Bagudu (Senator). It noted that both reports were laid on the table.
According to the release, the Senate agreed on the necessity for establishment of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Centre Bill 2014, differing on where it should be domiciled; whilst the Senate President subsequently postponed further debate to another legislative day.
