The Senate on Monday rescheduled its resumption of plenary from Tuesday to Wednesday.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Clerk to the Senate, Benedict Efeturi, in Abuja.
The clerk subsequently requested senators to resume sitting in plenary on Wednesday by 10 a.m.
No reason was given for the postponement, but the Senate, it would be recalled, adjourned abruptly on November 4 and 5 and subsequently adjourned again till Tuesday, November 11 after a tense sitting, which saw the scant discussion of the removal of the security details of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, allegedly on presidential directives.
However, it was gathered that the postponement might not be unconnected with President Goodluck Jonathan’s formal declaration for a second term today in Abuja. The epoch-making event is expected to be witnessed by members of the Federal Executive Council, NASS members, Peoples Democratic Party chieftains and support groups among others.
