Popular rapper Cardi B has opened up about her messy split with her ex-husband, Offset. She recently revealed that famous singer Shakira encouraged her to part ways with her baby daddy.
Speaking during an appearance on a Jay Shetty podcast, Cardi B said that the divorce and the scandal that happened before it made her fall into a deep depression that made it difficult to eat and sleep.

According to her, during the period of uncertainty that even made it hard for her to focus on recording her album, she reached out to Shakira, who had a similar experience before and after she ended her decade-long relationship with her ex, Gerard Piqué.
The lyricist stated that she had to speak to someone who had gone through her pain to know how she overcame the trauma.
“Last year, I was planning to put out an album, but I couldn’t focus. I fell into the deepest depression that I had ever had. And with that depression, I couldn’t function; I couldn’t function at anything. And when I talk about function, it’s not even like, oh, just working. I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t do anything
Around that time, I was working with Shakira and I was like, ‘How the f*** did you overcome this? Like, how did you overcome this? And [she’s] like, ‘It’s going to happen,’ And [I’m] like, ‘It will never happen’ and it happened. It took some crying. It took some thoughts, scary thoughts. But I’m here, honey, I’m here and I’m the strongest I’ve been,” she said.
Recall that Cardi B secretly wed Offset on September 20, 2017.
However, after just 12 months together, the former couple announced that they parted ways on December 5, 2018, due to rumours of Offset’s infidelity.
After a long period of breakups and reconciliation, including a 2020 divorce filing that was later called off, they eventually filed for divorce again in July 2024.
Cardi B and Offset are parents to their 3 kids, Kulture Kiari, Wave Set, and Blossom Belle.
