Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has charged leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the state to shun politics of exclusion so that the party can continue to meet the aspirations of the citizens.
He said the giant strides recorded so far by the party in Ogun were products of politics of inclusion and accommodation, defence of the rule of law and extraordinary commitment on the part of the government and residents.
Amosun spoke yesterday in Abeokuta during a meeting of party chieftains from the 3 senatorial districts, 20 local councils and 237 wards of the state at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.
He informed the gathering that the conference was not about the second term ambition of any member but to consolidate and cement relationships among members of the party and give the lie to the rumour of any crisis in the party.
He restated that “there is no SIA camp nor Osoba camp in Ogun APC since Chief Osoba is the acknowledged leader of the party” and called on party faithful to troop out en masse for the forthcoming party registration exercise.
“APC is a disciplined party that holds aloft the tenets of democracy. No member should participate in disrupting any gathering of the opposition parties. They are in the minority but we must allow them to have their say; this after all is the beauty of democracy,” the governor said.
Amosun however warned that he would not condone a situation where opposition parties would take laws into their hands.
“No one should be above the law,” he declared. He enjoined the press to accord equal coverage to activities of all parties so that the electorate could be well-guided.
An APC chieftain from Ogun East Senatorial District, Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye, echoed other speakers by noting that the performance of Senator Amosun had already guaranteed him a second term in 2015. He however cautioned that the event was not about endorsement but consolidation of the unity within the party.
