Six members of the House of Representatives from Oyo State have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The lawmakers are believed to be loyal to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who recently emerged as the presidential candidate of the APM following his defection to the party.

The defections were announced on Tuesday during plenary at the House of Representatives following the resumption of legislative activities after the Sallah break.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, read a total of 13 letters from lawmakers notifying the chamber of their change of party affiliation.
The Oyo lawmakers who defected to the APM are Anthony Adebayo, Adedeji Olajide, Sunday Makanjuola, Oyedeji Oyeshina, Fola Oyekunle and Adigun Adekunle.
In their separate letters, the lawmakers attributed their decision to leave the PDP to the protracted internal crisis and leadership disputes within the party.
They stated that the lingering challenges in the PDP necessitated the search for an alternative political platform to pursue their political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
With the latest defections, Governor Makinde is understood to have secured the allegiance of six of the 14 members of the Oyo State caucus in the House of Representatives who have now joined him in the APM.
The development marks another significant shift in the country’s political landscape as parties and political actors continue to realign ahead of the next general election.
