The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested 22 suspects for alleged involvement in criminal conspiracy, theft, mischief, and receiving stolen property.
The State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Musa, disclosed the arrests while briefing journalists in Sokoto on Thursday, reaffirming the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the state.
Musa revealed that two suspects were apprehended following a complaint from the manager of SAMAG Engineering Company regarding the theft of aluminum conductor wires intended for the Sokoto East electrification reconstruction project in Goronyo Local Government Area.
“Officers promptly responded to the report, and during the investigation, the stolen wires were recovered.
The suspects confessed to conspiring with two other individuals who remain at large,” Musa stated.
In a related development, Musa reported that police officers from the Achida Out Station in Wurno LGA arrested a driver during a routine stop-and-search patrol on Saturday.
“The driver was found in possession of sacks containing aluminum conductor wires, an iron cutter, and ropes,” the commissioner disclosed.
“During interrogation, the suspect admitted to working with three accomplices involved in vandalizing electric wires along Achida Road.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other suspects, and the arrested individual will be arraigned in court shortly,” Musa added.
The police assured the public that investigations are ongoing and reiterated their determination to curb criminal activities in the state.
