Aliyu WamakkoThe Sokoto State Government says it has spent over N50 billion to construct over 2,000 kilometres of road network across the state in the last seven years.

Gov. Aliyu Wamakko said this on Monday at Milgoma, Bodinga Local Government Area of the state when the former Governor of the old Sokoto State, Malam Yahayya Abdulkarim, inaugurated the 7-kilometres Milgoma-Bagarawa-Saulawa-Zangalawa road.

Wamakko said that the road network covered the 23 local government areas of the state.

He said the road, which cost about N198 million, linked several towns and villages in the area and was constructed through direct labour.

“Contract for the road project was earlier awarded by the state government at over N204 million but was later revoked due to the death of the contractor,” he explained.

The former governor said, “Gov. Wamakko will not know that he is doing much until he leaves office.

“I am happy to be part of the progress and development of the state under Gov. Wamakko”, he said

The Commissioner of Works, Alhaji Umar Nagwari, promised that the ministry would ensure the execution of quality roads on schedule and according to specifications.
