soldiersResidents of Gidan Waya, a community in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State and its environs, were under siege on Wednesday as thousands of soldiers surrounded the community following the killing of an army colonel.

Few weeks ago, there was a clash between some army personnel and some unknown youths, which led to the killing of six people.

According to LEADERSHIP, the siege on Gidan Waya, a community hosting the Kaduna State College of Education, was as a result of the killing of the two military men, whose weapons were also taken away by unknown gunmen.

A resident, who identify himself simply as Bulus, said the gunmen attacked the colonel and one soldier at a filling station where they had stopped to refuel their car.

“As they were there, unknown gunmen from nowhere opened fire on them, killed a colonel and a corporal. Another soldier was also shot in the hand but he survived it.

“Right now, thousands of security men have barricaded the community. No car is allowed to come in, neither is allowed to go out. Cars from Abuja, Jos, Kaduna and Kafanchan were forced to return because there is no road. We don’t know what to do”, the resident lamented.
