Nasir-el-RufaiGovernor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state has warned the Kaduna State Traffic and Environmental Law Enforcement Agency (KASTELEA) Road Marshals not to arrogate powers to themselves but to operate according to the law.

El-Rufai gave the warning on Saturday at a public lecture organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in collaboration with the ICPC for KASTELEA Marshals at the NUJ secretariat.

El-Rufai, who was represented at the event by the Director General KASTELEA, Col. Ahmad Zubairu (Rtd), said the agency was established to guide the public on strict adherence to traffic laws and ensure a clean environment.

He said that KASTELEA should also ensure safer roads by ensuring that road users obey traffic rules and regulations.

He said obedience to traffic and sanitation rules would improve social and economic development, stressing that the sensitisation was aimed at affecting a change in the conduct of motorists and road users.

He said that the partnership between the NUJ and KASTELEA will go a long way in improving the relationship between the agency and the public.

He described journalists as critical to the development of a prosperous Kaduna state.

The NUJ State Chairman, Mr Garba Mohammad, told newsmen that the sensitisation would go a long way to educate the public and motorists on the relevance of adhering to traffic rules.

Mohammad commended the government for its foresight in establishing KASTELEA in the state

“We believe this will go a long way in complementing FRSC and other agencies in ensuring safer roads and environment,” he said.

He said, the FRCS license is accepted internationally, adding that it is important for motorist to acquired training and drivers’ license.

NAN reports that the NUJ, FRSC, KASTELEA, NGOs and PMAN members embarked on a road walk through KASTELEA office, Taiwo Road, Stadium to enlighten the public on the importance of obeying traffic rules and regulations.
