According to Ajuri Ngelale, President Bola Tinubu’s special assistant on media and marketing, the president wants to “double” the present minimum wage.
Ngelale made this remark during a Thursday night interview on Channels Television.
He claimed the federal government is aware that the reduction in the price of petrol is “hurting” the Nigerian people.
Ngelale pointed out that, with the subsidies gone, states can afford to raise the national minimum wage from its current level of N30,000.
It’s obvious now, but I won’t speak for President Bola Tinubu because I don’t want to steal his thunder.
And I don’t want to get in the way of the Minimum Wage Review Committee’s investigation into the issue. But I will add that it is clear that the president would want no less than a doubling, and to that end, I will also want no less than a doubling.
According to Ngelale, this would result in a doubling of the minimum wage.
