The Supreme Court has announced the reservation of judgment in the appeal brought by Patrick Tonye-Cole, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), challenging the victory of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in the last gubernatorial election.
Tonye-Cole’s appeal is directed against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Governor Fubara.
This development follows the November 28 decision of the Appeal Court, which dismissed Tonye-Cole’s appeal on the grounds of insufficient and unconvincing evidence.

The APC governorship candidate’s appeal is based on alleged non-compliance with the Electoral Act and Governor Fubara’s continued signing of documents as the Rivers State’s Accountant-General after his nomination as the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate.
A five-member panel, led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, reserved judgment on the appeal after all involved parties in the case presented their briefs of arguments.
