LAFIA (FIC Lafia Report) – About 474 Graduates from Nasarawa State have been enlisted to benefit from the second phase of the SURE-P Internship Scheme out of the 50 thousand Nigerian graduates expected to benefit from the scheme across the country.
This was contained in the report of activities for the month of December 2014 published by the Federal Information Centre in Lafia, Nasarawa State recently. The Centre recalled that in 2012 the Nigerian Government announced the sudden removal of fuel subsidy, the decision which generated much outcry by Nigerians. It added that the government explained that the removal was aimed at ending the vast corruption and re-investing the saved money into infrastructural development.
The Reported further stated that the funds recovered are today captured under the “Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) and utilised for the improvement of the difficulty of Nigerians through diverse intervention programmes.
Speaking on the SURE-P component tagged: Graduate Internship Scheme, the Director of the scheme, Peter Aka said that 147 firms in Nasarawa State has applied to absorb the prospective graduates based on the capacity of the firm.
Also remarking at the event, the Consultant of the scheme, Temitope Ade informed that the participating graduates will be trained for a period of twelve months and will be paid the sum of N30, 000 monthly over the period. He added that the participants are expected to gain skills that will make them reliable in the labour market.
Reporting on the activities of the School of Health Technology in Lafia, the FIC in the State revealed that the school engaged the accreditation of the institution’s courses as officers from the Health Records Registration Board of Nigeria in Abuja visited the school for inspection of the facilities aimed at facilitating the process of accreditation. The centre added that the school which was established in July 2014 commenced learning activities in September 2014 and presently has about 380 students taking five courses – Community Health, Environmental Health, Medical Laboratory Science, Health Information Management and Image Processing (Scanning and X-ray).
“As a step forward to fulfill the requirements for the provision of full accreditation, the board sent delegates led by Thomas Olayomi to the school to inspect the health facilities available. After inspecting the facilities such as lecture halls, sick-bay, laboratory and computer rooms among others, the leader of the delegates expressed satisfaction with the available facilities, saying the team will report and make appropriate recommendations to the Board based on what they have seen on ground,” the FIC noted.
“The School Principal, Isa Salihu in his briefing at the occasion revealed that already the facilities for image processing, x-ray and scanning were inspected in the preceding month, while the successive exercise was scheduled for the Health Information Management and Environmental Health Courses.”
