Report from the Office of the Surveyor General.
The Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGOF) has offered to support the cause for expanding the economic base of Nigeria through the release of specific maps that will assist in the inventory of in-depth assets of the six geo-political zones in Nigeria.
The Surveyor-General of the Federation (SGOF), Prof. Peter Chigozie Nwilo made this known when the Chief Economic Adviser to Mr. President, Dr. Nwanze Okedigbe visited him in his office in Abuja recently.
While presenting his work and showing one of the maps produced, the SGOF said, ”This is another map that we produced from our high resolution imagery for Nigeria; you can see that the central place is a major town in Nigeria with roads.” He added that ”part of what we are doing now is to generate roads in towns and villages so that if you want to do some tracking, you should be able to do that.”
He added that in Lokoja, “we have put some information on 2.5 imageries ortho-photo maps; it helps to do a lot of work.”
Surv. Nwilo said part of the success story recorded in Ekiti State election was due to the good collaboration OSGOF had with INEC. He said, INEC gave them some information on Ekiti and the Office was able to produce maps showing the polling units in the State; this, he said, guided INEC in their recent assignment in the State.
He pointed that the office has Satellite Imageries covering the whole country, showing the States and reiterated that it is more strategic to partner with organizations for the benefit of the nation in general.
Earlier, the Economic Adviser to the President, said, their visit was informed by a matching order given by Mr. President to carry out an in-depth inventory of all the assets Nigeria has, in the six Geo-political Zones, covering natural resources, infrastructure, human capital and business aspects, with a view to improve the regional planning, based on the endowment of each zone.
