Sokoto South Senator, Aminu Tambuwal, has explained that his decision to step down from contesting the senatorial seat in 2027 was aimed at promoting younger candidates and not due to any crisis within the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
Tambuwal made the clarification during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Friday.

The lawmaker had earlier withdrawn from the senatorial race, with former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Faruk Yabo, subsequently endorsed as the ADC’s consensus candidate for the seat.
DAILY POST recalls that Tambuwal was a presidential aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, during the 2023 general elections before stepping down for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Speaking on his latest decision, Tambuwal said he remains committed to the success of the ADC in Sokoto State and would continue to participate actively in the party’s campaigns.
“I would participate in the campaigns in the state. I would organize elections in the state and, as leader of the party in the state, we will conduct rigorous campaigns to convince people to vote for the ADC,” he said.
He dismissed suggestions of internal divisions within the party.
“There isn’t any issue; there are no cracks in the ADC. My desire is to continue to promote younger people and enhance leadership recruitment,” Tambuwal added.
