Former Zamfara State lawmaker, Senator Kabiru Marafa, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for his non-interference in the Supreme Court’s judgments regarding the 2023 governorship election, stating that this action has preserved Nigeria’s democracy.
In a statement released on Monday in Abuja, Marafa, who represented Zamfara Central at the National Assembly from 2011 to 2019, commended Tinubu and the justices of the apex court for upholding the will of Nigerian voters.
“Posterity will judge them well for allowing the will of the Nigerian voters to prevail,” Marafa stated.

He emphasized that Tinubu’s decision not to interfere in the Supreme Court’s rulings has prevented a situation akin to the collapse of the Second Republic in 1983 when the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) secured states previously held by the opposition.
Marafa also praised the justices of the Supreme Court, asserting that their actions have bolstered his confidence in the judiciary’s ability to address any political irregularities.
Recalling a similar incident during the 2019 general election, Marafa highlighted the judiciary’s pivotal role in upholding justice, citing a landmark judgment that favored the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State.
He urged the eight governors whose elections were affirmed by the Supreme Court to govern their states with magnanimity and fairness, particularly congratulating Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara and urging him to work towards restoring peace and security in the state.
Marafa concluded by calling for collaboration between Governor Lawal, President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and relevant security agencies to ensure the restoration of peace, which he emphasized as the primary aspiration of the people of Zamfara State.
