Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has urged Nigerians to imbibe the habit of proper disposal of refuse and clearing of drains to reduce flooding and filth in their neighbourhoods.
Dr. Uduaghan made this call while inspecting the construction work on the old Lagos/Asaba Road, at Agbor.
He observed that over 70 per cent of flooding problems faced in the State are caused by people’s attitude towards the environment, asserting that it was important for people to dispose their refuse properly.
The Governor also frowned at the habit of dumping of refuse in the drains, reiterating that such habits blocks the drains and could cause flooding and erosion.
While expressing satisfaction at the level of work done at the old Lagos/Asaba Road, Agbor, the Governor admitted that the contractor’s major challenge was the bridge across the Orogodo River which hampered the progress of work but promised to constantly monitor the project for it to be delivered on time and to specifications.
He used the occasion to disclose that the ongoing removal of illegal structures in Warri and its environs was a project that would be implemented in all parts of the State, stating that Deltans should imbibe friendly attitudes towards the environment by removing shanties and planting trees and flowers.
Governor Uduaghan who also visited Ogbemudien Secondary School, Agbor and Owa Model Secondary School, Boji Boji Owa, expressed satisfaction at the quality of work done on the projects, adding that the sporting facilities were meant to develop young athletes for the State to remain first in sporting activities in the country.
He informed that State’s Ministry of Education (Basic and Secondary) and the Sports Council would work out modalities for coaches to be sent to schools to revive school sports in the model schools where special sporting facilities have been built.
Earlier, the Governor who also inspected the fly over at Ekumeku Roundabout, Asaba, commended the contractor handling the project for the quality and pace of work, assuring that the latter will meet the December completion deadline for the delivery of the project.
