In a collaborative effort, the United Nations (UN), the Federal Government, and the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS) have emphasized the critical role of data visualization in decision-making processes.
This affirmation was made during the official launch of the “Nigeria Visualised Project” on Monday night in Abuja, a program orchestrated by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, and the NBS.
Speaking at the launch, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Mr Mathias Schmale, underscored the significance of the project in the full implementation of government policies and programs in Nigeria.

He highlighted the commitment of the UN to supporting the government in reporting trajectories on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the SDG framework.
Schmale noted, “Too often data gets lost on the shelves, and on countless bases, that is why this platform is important, to put a human face and help relate with data.”
The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Abubakar Bagudu, expressed optimism that the project would provide more access and information to Nigerians.
He emphasized that visualization could offer a comprehensive view of the country’s challenges and opportunities.
The Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Ibrahim, commended UNDP and NBS for their commitment to harnessing data and advancing visualization techniques.
She highlighted the transformative potential of the project with over 40 visualizations, aiming to provide essential data for informed decision-making.
The Statistician-General/CEO of NBS, Mr Semiu Adeniran, emphasized that the collaboration marked a new turn in collective data gathering, enhancing reporting and visualization capacity.
UNDP Resident Representative, Mr Mohamed Yahya, emphasized that the initiative aimed to boost understanding of data visualization, making data accessible for informed decision-making.
