In a stern response to misconduct, the University of Uyo in Akwa Ibom State has sanctioned 26 students across various faculties for offenses including academic fraud and anti-social behaviors.
The decision to penalize the students was made during the 127th and 128th Senate meetings, held on August 30 and October 4, 2023, respectively, and chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Nyaudoh Ndaeyo.
The affected students, hailing from the faculties of Agriculture, Science, Engineering, Arts, Management Sciences, and Pharmacy, faced diverse sanctions.
Three students faced outright expulsion, while an additional three received indefinite suspensions for failing to appear before a properly constituted panel.
Seventeen others were rusticated, marking a significant move by the university to address misconduct.
According to a statement from the Registrar, the decisions were taken to uphold the institution’s standards of excellence. The statement reads,
“The Senate of the University of Uyo, at its 127th meeting held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, sanctioned nine erring students of the institution to deter other students from misconducts that do not portray the brand of excellence for which the University stands for.”
The University continued its firm stance on discipline during the 128th meeting on October 4, 2023, rusticating an additional 17 students and directing the publication of their names as a deterrent to others engaging in similar misdemeanors.
The actions underscore the institution’s commitment to maintaining a conducive academic environment and upholding its reputation for excellence.
