Prof. Pat Utomi a seasoned economic and financial expert has commended the Delta State Economic Policy of ‘Delta Beyond Oil’, supporting it as a step in the right direction and that for Nigeria to record real growth, it must embark on aggressive diversification of the economy with the non-oil export.
Utomi who made the commendation in Warri in an interactive session with journalists, said that the policy has become necessary as non-oil exports are expected to be key players in the overall development plans of Nigeria so as to activate the current economic climate, motivate development and recover the momentum of investment, which according to him, has been affected largely by the over dependence of the economy on oil.
He also called for the inclusion of Sovereign Wealth Fund, SWF into the annual budget to ensure transparency and accountability in the utilization of the Nation’s oil revenue.
He described Nigeria as a place filled with huge mineral deposits in non-oil sectors like tin, limestone, bitumen and agriculture in need of development, noting that Nigeria cannot record real economic growth without diversifying through the non-oil sector.
