Residents of Abeokuta in Ogun State can now heave a sigh of relief as potable water supply has been restored to the metropolis. The General Manager of Ogun State Water Corporation, Engr Mrs Monsurat Agboola, disclosed this in Abeokuta.
She said that water supply to Abeokuta was disrupted in the last few days because of power outage by the Power Holding Company of Nigeria ( PHCN)
Mrs. Agboola explained that the power situation caused by a maintenance work at the Lagos end of the PHCN operations hampered the pumping of water from Adiyan Water Works, from where the state capital is supplied.
She added that the corporation deployed ten water tankers as temporary means of supplying water to different parts of Abeokuta while the scarcity lasted.
Mrs Agboola expressed regrets over the scarcity and explained that the occasional hiccups in the supply chain would be permanently solved upon the completion of the major projects being undertaken by the Senator Amosun-led administration.
“For instance, we are constructing our own power plant; that will certainly give us complete control on pumping of water as far as electricity supply is concerned. “We are also embarking of a comprehensive review of our pipe network system and equipment to ensure effective service delivery,” Mrs Agboola said.
While reiterating the commitment of the current administration to the supply of safe-drinking water, the General Manager called on residents to continue to fulfil their civic obligations by paying their water rates as and when due and protect water-pipes.
Engr Agboola also appealed to residents to report any incident of pipe rupture in their neighbourhood.
