In the determination to encourage private sector participation in its massive housing delivery programme, the Ogun State government has affirmed that it will continue to create a conducive environment for private developers to operate and thrive.
Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Daniel Adejobi gave this assurance in Abeokuta during a media chat on the State’s housing policy.
“Our motive is to flood the market with mass housing delivery programme which is for low and medium income earners, this is the reason why we called on private developers to partner with the State government as we will continue to provide an enabling environment for them to operate and thrive” Adejobi noted.
He highlighted government’s on-going efforts to develop various housing estates across the State to include the 50-hectare site and serviced plots where individuals could buy and build houses of their choice, Orange Valley Estate, and Plainfield Estate opposite the State Secretariat Oke Mosan in Abeokuta.
According to him, preparatory works are also on-going at the Akute- Isheri Estate, another effort of the present administration on new town development, saying all these estates are structured to meet the housing needs of the citizens.
On ways of procuring funds by prospective buyers, particularly civil servants, the Commissioner indicated that there are mortgage institutions who could help out in this respect, urging buyers to approach anyone of their choice to help them structure and spread payment schedule.
“A mortgage arrangement has been made for low income earners with the Federal Mortgage Bank, for those contributing to the National Housing Scheme to access funds for which about 10 to 20% down payment would be made and balance would be spread for the period of 10 to 15 years, depending on the number of years to spend in service”.
