The Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Nyema Weli has lauded the executive of the Rivers State Women Association for advocating the social-cultural advancement of women in the State. Speaking during a courtesy visit of the Association on him in his office, the Commissioner thanked the leadership for its effort in rallying the women of the State toward a new socio-cultural and economic order, where women would be in a position to determine their destiny.
He advised the Association to work in synergy with Her Excellency, Mrs. Judith Amaechi, wife of the Governor, to further consolidate her efforts in actualizing the economic advancement of women in the State describing women as ‘‘a humane folk and competent home builders.’’
Dr. Weli promised to support the Association in its efforts to actualize set goals. Earlier, the Chairperson of the Association, Mrs. Oyi Opi had intimated the Commissioner of the programmes of the Association and described the Association as a Non-Governmental Organization that advocates the cause of women in the State.
According to her, the Association was in the office of the Commissioner to solicit for support for development such as; building of halls for functions and skills acquisition programmes for women and to also seek for support for Her Excellency’s ideals.
