Lola Ade-John, Nigeria’s Minister of Tourism, has announced that the country’s central government is planning to develop and market tourism products both abroad and at home.
The Minister remarked that tourism “products are vast, plentiful, and core to revenue generation for the country” at the Abuja 2023 World Tourism Day, which had the subject “Tourism and Green Investment.”
She also said that the United Nations’ adoption of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals in 2015 provides a chance to consider how to increase tourism’s contribution to achieving those goals.

The Minister of Tourism believes that promoting sustainable tourism in Nigeria requires bringing it down to the grassroots level and drawing attention to the undiscovered treasures of the villages across this beautiful and varied country.
Lola Ade-John cited community empowerment, collaboration and partnerships, sustainable tourism development, investment in renewable energy, and digital transformation as vital to the expansion and improvement of the Nigerian tourism industry.
All of these, she claims, have the capacity to reshape our country and offer great promise for the future.
The Minister reaffirmed the importance of investing in proper public relations, marketing, and sales for the tourism industry’s wares.
She mentioned that the industry faces a number of problems, but that the government, with the help of the public and other interested parties, will eventually solve them.
World Tourism Organisation Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili called tourism a “pillar of economies” in his opening remarks. It’s incredibly important to our communities and daily lives. The UN Secretary General has stated that the world’s most pressing problems, such as the climate emergency and the urgent need to transition to more sustainable economies, may be solved through tourism.
In addition, Zurab remarked that tourism possesses tremendous influence. Investors of all stripes will find it less difficult to back tourism projects with real impact, he said.
