Mbeya City (1) Vs AFC Leopards (2)
AFC Leopards of Kenya beat Mbeya City of Tanzania Mainland 2-1 on Monday (26 May) night in the ongoing Nile Basin Cup. It was Leopards’ second win in as many games after .they beat Etincelles of Rwanda 2-0 in their opening match on Saturday.
Goals from Musa Mudde and captain, Paul Were won the day for Leopards with Deus Kaseke getting the consolation for Mbeya City. The win puts the Kenyan side among the genuine contenders for the title in this inaugural CECAFA [Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations] Nile Basin Cup. Other good looking teams in the tournament include SC Victoria University of Uganda who held Al Merreikh 0-0 in Omdurman and hosts Al Merreikh of sudan.
Academie Tchite (1) Vs Etincelles (0)
Own goal condems Etincelles
Prince Nkusi headed into his own goal to cause the second defeat of the Rwanda club Etincelles when they fell (1-0) to Burundi’s Academie Tchite on Monday in the CECAFA , Nile Basin Cup for clubs.
Tchite who had earlier lost 3-2 to Mbeya City bought themselves a life line with the win as they seek to qualify for the quarter finals. Winless Etincelles will have to pull off a huge win over Mbeya City on Wednesday for any mathematical chance to qualify and even that will need the help of favourable result from the other group match.
It’s Sudan vs South Sudan- on Tuesday
Group A action on Tuesday 27 May will see unpredictable Malakia FC from South sudan take on Al-Merreikh of Sudan at 8:00 pm local time. Malakia won their last game 3-0 against Police of Zanzibar. Head coach Ramzi Sebit believes his side can frustrate the Sudan’s well stocked team with seven foreign players from Ghana, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Mali.
“We are a club and so are they. They may have the big names but we know their playing style…they will have no advantage until it’s over” said Ramzi.
If Malakia wins this game, they may go top of the group depending on the results from the first clash between Police and Victoria University. Police who have lost their first two matches 3-0 to Al-Merreikh and another 3-0 to Malakia will need to beat Victoria University on a margin bigger that 6 goals to remain in contention for qualification into the quarter stage.
