The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Zainab Maina has renewed call for the speedy release of abducted school girls of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State.
Maina, in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja said that the call became necessary as the delay could have untold effect on the abducted girls, their parents and the nation.
While describing the act as a crime against humanity, the Minister said, “The Nigerian women and children are saddened about this incident, they don’t want violence. Abduction of innocent children and killings of vulnerable Nigerians should be stopped; so we are calling for the unconditional release of our girls and the criminals responsible for these acts fished out and brought to justice.”
The Minister called on all Nigerians to be more alert and vigilant; saying that there was need for a national alert and zero tolerance to all forms of violence in the country.
Maina also said that “Wherever it takes place, abduction of children is a crime and illegal under international law; it is an unacceptable trend and we are calling on all security agents to tighten security in the North-eastern States.”
She also expressed deep solidarity with all the communities affected by the horrific acts.
