Omooba Sunday Solarin FCA who was a one time Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ikenne Local Government has also joined in the condemnation of the wanton destruction of properties, businesses and unwarranted killings of Nigerians by South Africans.
Solarin in a release from his media office, described the xenophobic attacks going on in South Africa as not only evil and wicked but purely against the spirit of brotherliness that exists among Africans and the principles for which the South African legend, Nelson Mandela, stood for.
“It breaks my heart to hear, see and feel this. I have never imagined that such moment like this would come in history where the South Africans would begin to kill citizens of Nigeria considering the role and financial commitment of Nigeria and Nigerians to the emancipation of South Africa from the colonial lords. Our country put all cards on the table and ensured the end of apartheid and the eventual freedom of former South African President, Mandela, from prison. So, what has gone wrong?”
He stated further “This xenophobic attack is totally strange and without doubt, the opposite of the teachings and philosophy of the political avatar, Nelson Mandela.”
Solarin urged the Federal government of Nigeria to put aside rhetorics and act in haste and put an end to the killings of Nigerians effectively.
He chided the South African police and government for not doing enough to curb the violence against Nigerians.
Aware of the anger and impatience building up in the hearts of Nigerians some of whom have lost friends and relatives to the killings, the Secretary of Ladi Adebutu Development Organisation, urged Nigerians to exercise restraints saying “evil cannot beget evil”. He pleaded with them to allow the FG and African Union, AU, to stem the tide.
He prayed for the souls of Nigerians who have lost their lives to the evil and unfortunate deed and for God to grant the families of the dead the fortitude to bear the loss.
