Bayelsa State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Iniruo Wills has charged youths in the state to desist from pipeline vandalism.
He gave the charge recently during a meeting between the Ministry of Environment and officials of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) at the Conference Hall of the ministry.
Mr. Wills condemned the spate of vandalism in the state and described it as man’s in-humanity to man, considering the grave danger it constitutes.
The Environment Commissioner called on NOSDRA to relocate its headquarters from Abuja to any of the oil producing states for more effective collaboration.
Earlier, the Zonal Director of NOSDRA, Mr. Cyrus Nkangwu solicited the support of the Ministry in carrying out enlightenment campaigns to host communities on the dangers of oil spill on the environment.
Mr. Nkangwu noted that the visit will strengthen the existing relationship between NOSDRA and the State Ministry of Environment in effective oil spill management and joint monitoring to ensure compliance with existing environmental legislations in the part of oil operators in the zone.
Also speaking the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Antonia Koroye described the collaboration as a step in the right direction, adding that it will improve the people economically.
