The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, has urged Nigerian youths to diligently guard their votes during the 2027 general elections.
Obi made the call on Monday while addressing students of Dominican University, Ibadan.
The former Anambra State governor stressed that meaningful change in Nigeria rests largely in the hands of young people, noting that they must take responsibility for protecting their votes if they desire positive transformation in the country.

According to him, national development is not determined by tribe or race but by knowledge and competence.
Obi lamented that despite Nigeria’s vast natural and human resources, the country is still struggling to provide basic amenities for its citizens.
He added that the era of over-reliance on international “globalisation” has passed, insisting that a new Nigeria which citizens can be proud of is achievable through competent leadership and informed participation.
“Development doesn’t come with tribe; it comes with knowledge. Competent leadership is the only way to turn these vast resources into wealth.
“It is you that will protect your vote, not me. It is our own country, but it is your future that is at stake. A new Nigeria is a necessity, and it must begin within the classroom,” Obi said.
In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of Dominican University, Professor Jacinta Opara, said Obi’s visit had significantly boosted the morale of both students and staff of the institution.
