Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, and 14 other governorship candidates have signed a peace accord aimed at ensuring peaceful political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The agreement was signed during a Peace Accord and Election Security Summit organised by the Zamfara State Police Command in Gusau, the state capital.

The accord is intended to promote peaceful conduct among political parties and candidates and ensure respect for electoral procedures before, during and after the elections.
Lawal, who is contesting under the All Progressives Congress, APC, joined the other candidates in endorsing the agreement and expressing their commitment to a peaceful electoral process.
The event also brought together political stakeholders contesting governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly seats, who were urged to work towards credible elections and avoid actions capable of threatening public order.
Speaking at the summit, the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Mohammed Bello Daga, cautioned political aspirants and party members against violating electoral laws or engaging in activities that could disrupt the elections.
He warned that anyone found breaking the law would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the relevant legal provisions.
The commissioner urged candidates to respect the electoral process and ensure that their campaigns and political activities remained peaceful throughout the election period.
Also speaking, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the state, Kabir Abdul Randawa, assured political parties and residents that the command would provide adequate security for political activities.
Randawa called on candidates and their supporters to reject intimidation, violence and other forms of misconduct capable of undermining peace and stability in the state.
The police command said the initiative was part of efforts to create a secure environment for political participation and ensure that electoral activities could proceed without violence or intimidation.
The signing comes as political parties and aspirants begin preparations for the 2027 general elections, with security agencies emphasising the need for cooperation among political actors to protect the electoral process.
The candidates’ commitment is expected to reinforce calls for peaceful campaigns, respect for electoral laws and the resolution of political disagreements through lawful means.
