875 Shops Burnt In Adamawa State

Over 1000 traders in Adamawa state lost their means of livelihood to a fire outbreak which rocked the state at the weekend, burning down 875 shops.

The Yola market figures did not include that of Ngurore and Numan markets which was also burnt down by fire almost at the same time, chairman, Gamzaki traders asaociation, Malam Ibrahim Mohammed said. He stated this while receiving a delegation of Adamawa peace initiative(AUN- API) who paid him a sympathy visit to condole with the traders.

He further explained that although,no life was lost but over 1000 traders lost their means of livelihood with 875 shops burnt down as a result of the inferno.

He said the major parts of the markets which constitute 90 percent was completely burnt down subjugating the traders to untold hardships and psychological trauma. Mohammed called on the government and the general public to come to the aid of the victims.

Leaders of the delegation, Gambo Jika and Stephen Mamza, Catholic Bishop of Yola, commiserated with the traders on behalf of the chairperson of the association, Prof Margee Ensign who is also the president of American university of Nigeria( AUN) Yola.

They urged the traders to see the incidence as an act of God and urged them to identified areas of needs to enable the association to assist the victims as part of their own contribution to cushion the effect of the lost incurred.

The chairman of the Yola south traders association, Ali kachallah, commended the AUN- Adamawa peace initiative for their various roles in uniting the people of the state.
