President Muhammadu Buhari has said that his government will deal with all sponsors of violence in the country.
Buhari made the comment in reaction to the increased spate of killings in Rivers State.
The president’s remarks were contained in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina on Tuesday, March 15, 2016.
“We will deal decisively with all sponsors of violence. I have given the security services clear directives in this regard,” Buhari was quoted as saying.
“We will show that violence in any form will no longer be tolerated before, during or after elections,” he added.
The increased violence in Rivers is believed to be a result of clashes between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
The APC has accused the PDP of orchestrating the killings of more than 30 of its members while the PDP has accused the APC of politicizing the deaths in the state and claiming every dead person as its member.
