Former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Alhaji Babatunde Mohammed, has resigned from the party.
In a telephone interview with newsmen in Ilorin on Saturday, Mohammed confirmed his resignation and disclosed plans to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, who served between 2009 and 2011 under the PDP, said he decided to leave the party because it had become “hopeless and directionless.”

Mohammed, a long-time loyalist of former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki, stated that he had been a dedicated member of the PDP since 2002 and had paid his dues to the party.
He noted that while several PDP leaders in the state had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the past, he chose to remain in the PDP out of loyalty — a stance he said had now become unsustainable.
In his resignation letter dated October 15, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Agunjin Ward in Ifelodun Local Government Area, Mohammed cited “personal reasons” for his decision to quit the party.
His defection to the ADC is expected to be formalized in the coming days.
