The caretaker committee set up to oversee the affairs of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Oyo State has been inaugurated.
InfoStride News reports that the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party had earlier approved the appointment of a 17-man caretaker committee to manage the party’s activities in the state.
In a statement, the National Organising Secretary of the PDP Caretaker Committee, Umar Bature, said the committee has Professor Abdulrahman Akinoso as Chairman and Dr Biola Olanipekun as Secretary.

The committee, led by Akinoso, was inaugurated on Friday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The event was attended by the National Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party, Abdulrahman Mohammed, who was represented by the National Women Leader, Professor Olanike Ogunse. Other attendees included members of the caretaker committee and party chieftains from the 33 local government areas of the state.
Speaking at the event, Mohammed charged members of the committee to discharge their duties in strict compliance with the party’s constitution.
In his acceptance speech, Akinoso promised that the committee would entrench the principles of participatory democracy in membership mobilisation, delegate elections and leadership representation at the ward, local government and state levels.
He stressed that transparency and fairness must guide all party processes.
“A committee is inaugurated to pilot the affairs of the party with a mandate to ensure the entrenchment of the principles of participatory democracy in membership mobilisation, delegate elections and leadership representation in the party at ward, local and state levels,” he said.
“This process must be transparent, fair to all members and strictly in line with the constitution of our great party.
Activities to actualise this mandate are scheduled to commence on January 9, 2026, as directed by the National Working Committee under the leadership of Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed.”
Akinoso said he was aware of the enormity of the task before the committee but expressed confidence that his team would succeed within the stipulated timeframe.
He added that his past experience as a youth leader, trade unionist, party official and public servant of over 30 years would be deployed to ensure the success of the committee.
“All stakeholders, leaders, members, women and youths will be consulted, accorded due recognition and their interests factored into decision-making,” he said.
The chairman also assured party members that the committee would be guided by the rule of law and the party’s constitution as preparations begin ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He further urged members of the dissolved Oyo State executive committee to hand over all party properties in their possession to the Secretary of the newly constituted caretaker committee, noting that the decision of the PDP National Executive Committee at its 103rd meeting to dissolve some state executive committees, including that of Oyo State, remains in force.
