The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kebbi State has requested the relocation of its orientation camp to Birnin Kebbi metropolis, citing security concerns at its current temporary camp located in Bausara, Jega Local Government Area.
The State Coordinator of the scheme, Bala Dabo-Kagarko, disclosed this during an interaction with journalists at the camp.
According to him, security assessments conducted by relevant agencies indicated that the current camp location is vulnerable, while the host community lacks the capacity to provide adequate security for corps members.

The orientation camp was previously relocated from its permanent site in Dakingari, Suru Local Government Area, due to insecurity in the area.
Dabo-Kagarko said the proposed relocation to Birnin Kebbi followed recommendations by security agencies, which considered the state capital a safer environment for corps members undergoing orientation.
“Of recent, the NYSC requested to relocate this camp to Birnin Kebbi metropolis for the safety of the corps members.
“This area is on the outskirts of the town, and the report from the security agencies was that this place is exposed and the community harbouring the camp cannot give adequate security for the camp,” he said.
The coordinator also revealed that corps members would not be posted to Arewa, Augie and Sakaba Local Government Areas because of prevailing security challenges.
He further disclosed that the number of corps members deployed to Kebbi State had declined, with only 492 corps members registered for the ongoing orientation exercise.
Dabo-Kagarko attributed the decline to inadequate accommodation facilities and poor infrastructure available for corps members in the state.
He explained that NYSC postings are determined by the availability of facilities such as hostels, water supply, electricity and other essential amenities.
According to him, the scheme requires improved infrastructure and accommodation facilities to attract more corps members to the state.
