Abuja (Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs Report) – The Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has called for collaboration from every Nigerian, especially the youths to complement Government’s efforts at tackling insurgency and restoring peace in affected parts of Nigeria.
Kabiru Tanimu Turaki made the call while receiving a forum of Youth Peace Ambassadors for the African First Ladies Peace Mission in his office on Thursday July 3, 2014; adding that peace is inevitable in every sphere of the Nigerian society. He stated further that the issue of peace is very important; indicating that without peace there can never be development in any society. “Without peace, we cannot have progress and without peace, life will inevitably become brutish and short and the difference between us and other wild animals will not be there again,” he said.
The Minister emphasized that Government cannot do it alone as the business of peace is not for security men alone. He reiterated that everyone is expected to support what they are doing so as to contain the escalation of security challenges and bring back sanity and peace to all parts of the country. “Nigerians must begin to appreciate the fact that whatever affects anybody or any part of the country, affects everybody, so we must work together to overwhelm our challenges,” he stressed.
Also speaking, the National Coordinator of the Group, Kelvin Akerele noted that as peace ambassadors, his group is determined to sensitize the less-enlightened people in every part of Nigeria on the need to embrace peace. He also called for government’s partnership in the effort to ensure the reign of peace within Nigeria.
While calling on other youths in the country to emulate the peace initiative of the Youth Peace Ambassadors, the Minister promised that his Ministry will partner with the group.
