
The immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, has been discharged from the National Hospital, Abuja, hours after he was admitted for treatment following an auto crash involving his car and a vehicle belonging to the U.S Embassy on Monday.
Mr. Akpabio emerged from the private ward accompanied by his successor, Udom Emmanuel, at 5:10 p.m., witnesses said.
the ex-governor, who was decked in a gray kaftan, was assisted down the steps and led to the Governor Emmanuel’s official car which was parked close to the ward.
Mr. Emmanuel assisted his predecessor get into the front seat of the official car before the vehicle drove out of the hospital premises accompanied by security operatives and aides.
It was learnt that top functionaries, including former Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji and the Executive Secretary of the National Christian Pilgrims Commission, John Kennedy Opara, witnessed Akpabio’s discharge from the hospital.
